I like these PUC's so much I own 2 of them. This review has made me realize that my first one is about 8 years old now and still going strong. I was using it in a closet a couple months ago, forgot about it for the moment and then next day it was still shining rather brightly. I live in a rural area and we lose power a few times a year, these are great to keep on a window sill and just expand them open and can be left on all night if you are busy or have kids.
However, the use these lights really excel at and have no equal IMHO is as a light/power bank to use when traveling. It's a little awkward like any multi-function item is but it does it's jobs better than anything comparable. When it is collapsed it can be awkward to hold as a flashlight but still not difficult and throws a very acceptable beam. Plus for hands-free there is a hook you can unfold and tuck into your shirt collar. The hook is metal so something else on the light will probably break before it does if it gets traumatised. When expanded it does a good job of lighting up most hotel rooms, and if you perch it right you can read comfortably with it. As a power bank I've used it to charge a dead phone and still never ran out of light for most of the night. Collapsed it is not very blatant charging your phone when collapsed and you can do it at a restaurant table without it looking too weird.
Anyway, these are a great little all around piece of equipment and if you have a friend who is on the road a lot and are wondering what to get for a present for them, they'll be mentioning how handy this this is for a long while.
